Rainy Lookout

Rainy Lookout

Shot this photo at a NY Mets vs Rays game in NY. Was a work trip, thought of going to the game and ask a coworker if he wanted to go then things escalated quick. We were 14. I took my camera to NY exclusively to bring it to the game. Checked the lens policy, didn’t find any, read some comments bout people just shooting, so i got my 16-80. which i thought i;d be a good range for NY anyways. In my local arena they allow up to 100mm. So figured i’d stay under to be safe. Preparing for the trip, i wanted to travel light, and coincidentally was listening to a lot of iphone photography podcasts and found sort of a movement of old school photographers switching to iphone camera (for some stuff). So had the idea to try it out and just shoot with the iphone.

After a lot of deliberation, and the tickets to the game, opted for packing the big camera, a 50mm lens and the 16-80, which is bulky but decent range i thought… The game was 3 days into the trip, at which point I had not even taken the big camera out of the bag. Getting ready for the game took it out of the bag and batteries were dead of course… I had charged them before the trip and as mentioned, didn’t even took it out of the bag. but must’ve left it on or something cause it would turn on, but flash the red low-battery warning immediately… Plugged it for the 20-30 minutes i had before leaving for the ballpark, but at some point saw it as a sign to embrace the iphone.

Being with a 14 people group, having to do a 45 minute commute in the subway and having a legitimate concern about foul balls (seats were nice). I figured i’d be better.

On i went with the phone alone. I think it was a good move, the iphone lenses are basically the same range. Was very convenient to pocket it when wanted to interact or do something else, and got videos, got panoramas, selfies. all sorts of things that the big camera wouldn’t have provided without some work.

Was trying to get the shot of the guy filling up the sheet to show my buddies its not all hi-tech. But after going thru them a couple of times is when noticed the pitcher and the whole thing made sense… Was edited for like 3 minutes. Mostly straightening up and some color leveling. All while in the subway back to the hotel.
