Kaboom

Kaboom

This is a meaningful photo, not a very good one tho. It was a very very hot summer day, we drove to Whyteclyff Park to chill under an umbrella by the water, which we did. Since its a bit boring at times, brought a tripod and a bunch of ND filters, I know how useless is to bring the camera to the beach on a sunny summer afternoon, but figured to do some expriments with the filters. Was going ok, 15s exposures, getting silhouettes of people vs the blurred out water, waves, underwater shots with the baggy which doesn’t work very well cause it fogs up very fast. The purpose again, was not to get a shot but to play with all the stuff and get a hang of the gear. After this particular photo the tripod got tipped over, the camera smashed against the rocks, the 10-20mm lens bounced and went flying to the sand, its ring stayed in the camera now with the sensor exposed, instinctively got the camera up and facing down right away got the lens with the other hand, tried to blow the sand off, made sure nothing was on the camera end and hold it back against the camera. Quckly went to get the lens and body caps for further inspection. From this point on the day was ruined. The camera seemed to work fine, the backscreen cracked but everything seemed to be operational. The lens was busted the ring had fallen off the lens so that was that. Surprisingly didn’t crack or anything, has a bit of a bent in the outer ring but beyond that the optics were ok. Put the 35mm lense on the camera to make sure the sensor was ok, and everything seemed to be fine, no dust or anything there. Just the gutted feeling of losing a lens and having gone thru the shock of it all. Camera Stayed in active use till the release of the XT-3. This photo was 12mm, 15s, f18, ISO200. With 10 Stop ND filter.
