This photo is part of the Paper Boat gallery.

I got this idea from a drawing on a greeting card a while back. It was a drawing of a paper boat on a water stream, and I figured it could work as a photo. It was challenging. I made one and threw it in my bag, thinking I could use it on demand. And it worked, at some point while walking in the park, I saw a stream and figured it would be perfect. Well, it wasn’t. The composition wasn’t as good; the boat was moving in all directions, none of them appropriate or nice for the photo, and then it turned on its side. By the time I managed to find a little stick to reach and get it back, it was all mush. I didn’t want to leave it there, so I had to keep it. I might still have that very same one as a souvenir.

After that, I made a bunch more and tried some experiments with wax on the bottom to lengthen their float time, but that was too messy for the little benefit. So, I stuck with plain paper. Over time, I took a bunch of photos, always a bit challenging to get the right angle of the boat without touching it. Then I thought about using strings to control it, but again, it was too much hassle and wasn’t going to be a game changer.

I still have a couple spread over pockets, though now I mostly use my phone.
